Getting Started with Race Studio 3

Race Studio 3 is the software platform for managing, configuring, and downloading data from your Aim devices. In this article, we'll go through everything you need to know to get started with Race Studio 3 to get the most out of your data.

Download & Install Race Studio 3

Race Studio 3 is available to download for free directly from Aim, either by directly downloading it to your computer or by using the mobile app, available on iOS or Android for your convenience.

Registration & Login

Before you can get started with Race Studio 3 software, you will need to register for a free account or log in. Once you're logged in, your credentials will automatically be stored for future sessions.

Connect Aim Devices

Once the Race Studio 3 software has been installed and logged into, connect it to your Aim device via USB or Wi-Fi. The devices section displays all Aim hardware currently connected that can be configured, download sessions or update firmware. If a device isn't listed, check the connection and try again.

Configure Your Preferences

The settings menu lets you adjust preferences such as units of measurement, language and data download behaviour. Configuring Race Studio 3 for your preferences will make daily use more efficient.

Race Studio Analysis Shortcut

A direct shortcut to Race Studio Analysis lets you open your data files for review without exiting the main software window. It's a useful feature when switching between data management and analysis.

Manage Tracks Database

The tracks section gives you access to Aim’s global circuit database. You can browse thousands of circuits, add them to your device, or manage which tracks are stored to conserve memory. This is particularly helpful if you're racing at multiple tracks and want to ensure only relevant tracks are loaded.

Indexing SmartyCam Footage

The movies tab is where video files from SmartyCam devices are indexed. Once you assign the correct file path using the path manager, the software will list all available videos along with metadata such as track name, driver, lap count, best lap, and recording date.

Custom Sensors & CAN Protocols

Under sensors, you’ll find tools to define custom sensors such as oil pressure or water temperature. These can be linked directly into your dash or logger configuration for expanded data monitoring. The adjacent CAN protocols section allows you to manage custom CAN inputs—ideal for integrating third-party systems like TPMS or ECU data streams into your Aim setup.

Update Software & Firmware

The web updates button is where you’ll find firmware and software updates. If a new version of Race Studio 3 is available, or if your device firmware is outdated, it will be flagged here. You can also manage ECU driver updates and review historical logs from this section.
