Karting Temperature Sensor
The Aim Under Spark Plug Karting Sensor is a thermocouple sensor that measures the cylinder head temperature from 0º to 300ºC, and is suitable for all MyChrons 6, 6 2T, 5S, 5S 2T, and 4. The cylinder head is a direct indicator of the overall engine combustion temperature, and the sensor is designed to be placed between the spark plug and the engine’s cylinder head.
Why Choose the MyChron Under Spark Plug Temperature Sensor
The Aim Spark Plug Thermocouple Temperature Sensor is used primarily for engine tuning and speed, as well as engine protection and overall safety. It is a vital tool for ensuring both maximum engine efficiency, but also the overall protection of the engine and driver.
The most crucial reason would be to reduce the risk of overheating the engine, and the MyChron Under Spark Plug Temperature Sensor sends the accurate, real-time temperature reading to your MyChron Lap Timer. If the temperature climbs over the safe limit, the MyChron will immediately flash a warning letting the driver know to back of the throttle or pit immediately.
Please Note: While running the thermocouple along with the kart chassis, keep it as far as possible from other cables like RPM or Lap Receiver to minimise cable interferences.
How the Spark Plug Temperature Sensor Works
Kart engines are usually tuned to run on the edge of the safe temperature limit to produce maximum power. This means that to achieve the optimal temperature, engineers and tuners will use the CHT reading to make sure conditions such as air temperature and humidity are optimal. Running too cold loses horsepower; running too hot risks damage.
Please Note: To keep the sensor in contact with the cylinder head, you will need to remove the washer from the plug when installing the thermocouple.
